Sound Off for Dec. 13, 2019

No value

Anyone who thinks that an RV park adds value to an existing golf course and subdivision had best stay out of the real estate valuation market. While there are many responsible RV owners, they are still transient and they only rent. They would not add value to a good golf course. Likewise, the homeowners were rightfully alarmed that transients can diminish their privacy and right to enjoy peace and security.

Buck stops here

The present administration of Biloxi continues to pass the buck to a past administration on this seemingly never-ending road and drainage project that has had the city’s core businesses and residences inconvenienced and dodging closed streets and potholes for over five years now. The present mayor and city council are the CEO and board of directors of the city. If they didn’t want to take the responsibility and criticism of this bungled project, they should have not run for the office. These officials seem more concerned about future “shiny object” projects than the plight of it’s citizens.

Listen

The reason veterans have a problem with getting appointments is because they do not show for the one they have, or call minutes before to cancel and then expect one the next day. The VA can’t say that because of right to privacy acts. I don’t work at the VA, but I do take friends their for appointments on time so I can say this: sit in the waiting area and listen. The staff does care and they do an exceptional job. Many vets have mental issues or are just lonely. Talk to one and listen, they tell some cool things.

Maintenance

If they would dredge all the outlets at the mouth of the river, it wouldn’t be necessary to open the spillways.

New rules

Public statues are there to honor people. Some may think Confederate statues are simply history, but in reality they are honoring pro-slavery ideas. The South’s history of slavery is shameful, and no person should be honored for supporting it. To preserve history, put these statues in a museum and explain how they were symbolic of hate and injustice. Then explain how the South now realizes that enslaving another human is wrong. For Christians, Jesus would be against slavery. Only the Old Testament supports slavery, and Jesus said that Christians were no longer to live by those rules.

Two sides

There are good and bad people in every profession. Police officers often have to make split-second decisions. Many times what can be considered harassment is a case of their trying to bump someone on the wrong path back into the right one. It doesn’t always work out like that, but I for one will try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
