Sound Off for Dec. 11, 2019
Public meetings
Join a civic group in you community if you want a voice. One lone voice, without media help, goes unheard. Also, don’t wait until it is on the agenda to speak up. It has already been discussed and decided by then. Community activism takes work.
Go green
I’ve been thrilled to find more restaurants in and near Pass Christian providing biodegradable takeout containers and paper straws instead of plastic. Also, you don’t have to choose “plastic or paper” if take your own shopping bag.
Seats for sale
Tate Reeves once said "you won't get a seat at the table" unless you're a Republican. Now you won't get a seat unless you donate $250,000 —and that's for two dinner tickets! Only donate $5,000-$10,000? No seats for you, not for breakfast or dinner!
Road confusion
U.S. 90 east lane ending at Jones's Park needs improvement. For three weeks straight, three cars kept going instead of turning into Jones's Park. Thank God one has got hurt yet. Major Hewes can you fix this ASAP?
No free samples?
Is it fair for someone else to pay for people who eat/sample food while they shop? I know the majority of people do pay for items they open and consume while shopping. But this Sound Off is for the one's that don't. A misconception is: This big store can afford it! Wrong! These big stores and mom-and-pop stores just pass these pilfered good's price along to us consumers via higher prices! No Free small or large sample's! Most store's will refund or exchange any reasonable opened/used food items, no question's asked.
Small crimes
To the people railing on “criminals” not getting their voting rights back: Once someone completes their sentence and are released their rights should be restored. There are so many young people who were in jail for felonies (probably some still in jail) for something as small as possessing marijuana. The lock them up and throw away the key concept has blown up in our faces.
Good cart system
In regard to shoppers leaving their carts in the parking lot: Aldi has a great system that requires a quarter to release the cart from a lock. When you unload your cart, you return it to the store and re-lock it then you get your money back! Most shoppers "buy" your cart from you as they head for the store. Others just donate theirs to the next person, saving time and making someone else very thankful, especially young mothers and the elderly. Good deeds make everyone feel better.
