Sound Off for Dec. 8, 2019
Sharing is caring
I lost my mother this year at age 92 so of course this Christmas will be very difficult. Today I was in CVS and I saw the “Santa for a Senior” Christmas tree. It hit me that providing a happy holiday for a lonely senior would be the perfect way to honor my mother. It makes me I feel like I’m shopping for her. I took an ornament, and I hope that many more people will honor their loved ones by taking and fulfilling a “Santa for a Senior” ornament. I just noticed that these gifts are due very soon so I’m going shopping and I hope you do too!
Digital invite
Today I got a picture of a graduation invitation via Facebook Messenger. I guess I’ll send a picture of a check.
Priorities
The recent unpleasantness over Ole Miss football is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corruption in college athletics. Many of the players can’t afford college so they get these athletic scholarships and don’t study hard enough and their professors are caught in the middle of “the coach says I gotta do this,” and the serious academic professors say, “No, you will do this to remain in my class,” then the professors are harassed by coaches and upper management. Academics is not respected on many levels these days, and that’s nothing new.
Discipline
Still scratching your head at the Ole Miss loss to State? Discipline has been a growing problem for quite some time for Rebel football. Just look up the article on the root problem by Jim Shute from over two months ago entitled “Better Wake Up.” It’s time to stop saying what a great kid number eight is. He is nearly 20 years old. Time to stop defending bad behavior.
Nothing is free
I’m not understanding why people are upset about aquarium pricing. They are comparable to the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans and others around the country. Same with the Harbor Lights. Go look what other places charge. Why do people in Mississippi expect these things to be free?
Not impressed
Great, just what we need, another chicken restaurant. How about something different for those who actually don’t eat chicken? How about better zoning regulations!
Price comparison
Why is it got the Goodwill can charge outrageous prices free stuff that is simply donated? I wanted $40 for a pair of used boots and $2.99 for a bottle of Arm & Hammer body wash that’s a dollar at the Dollar Tree. What’s wrong with this picture?
Open up
Words hurt, but extreme silence kills. Talk more, you might learn things you didn’t know.
