Sound Off for Dec. 4, 2019
Too high
At $30 a ticket, the Mississippi Aquarium will fail or require a subsidy. As nice as it is, this is not one of the world’s largest like the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. Why is cost so high?
Paper bags
I agree with the shopper who wrote that plastic bags should be banned. Walmart may not have paper bags but Winn-Dixie and Rouse’s do have them. However, you may have to request paper. Recently, I was told by a checker that paper bags were not available. I assured her that they were since I had just checked with the manager. I got paper bags.
Scammers at work
A scammer used my cousin's name from my list of friends on Facebook to write that I need a favor. He wanted me to send Walmart gift cards for his niece's birthday because he was overseas. My sister in law was contacted by a thief on Facebook using her friend's name to say her purse was stolen in Arizona and she needed money to get home. Beware!
Bad for business?
The Sun Herald recently reported the U.S. has earmarked $30 billion to help our farmers because Trump’s trade policy has destroyed their markets. How would you like watching your crops rot with no place to sell it? We taxpayers are paying for that rot, plus inflated prices on everything else we purchase. Good for business? Good for me? I don’t see how.
End of democracy?
Regardless of your political affiliation you should be concerned. One of the jobs of Congress is to be the watchdog of the people. If Congress didn't fulfill this obligation, it would be a violation of the Constitution and soon democracy would no longer exist. We would then become a nation where law only applies to those without wealth. The fact that legal subpoenas are being ignored, testimony is being blocked, records hidden, and politicians who know there is wrongdoing won't speak for fear of retaliation is not a badge of honor, its a recipe for the end of democracy.
Not illegal
So what if Hunter Biden made money on his father’s name? That is not illegal. What is terribly wrong and illegal is for our president to withhold critical military aid approved by Congress in order to get a foreign president to “do him a favor” by publicly announcing he would investigate the Bidens.
Undue influences?
If Biden is guilty of using his influence to get his son a job with a foreign country, is that justification for withholding aid to the entire country? Money that Congress already appropriated? We are to believe that this had nothing to do with Biden’s leading in the polls? Let’s battle it out on Election Day without undue influences.
