Sound Off

Political ploy?

The Bonnet Carre spillway was completed in 1931. It's been opened six times since 2008. Jim Hood has been attorney general since 2003 yet he waited until an election in 2019 to sue. Not a very subtle political ploy.

Drain the swamp

Jay Hughes is the first candidate that I know of that has suggested using the Mississippi lottery for funding adequate public education for all Mississippi children. Mr. Hughes has my vote. Why was the lottery not set up properly by the current administration to fully fund education? It is time to drain the swamp.

Pet projects

The BP money should be used to remove all drains flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. But, unfortunately, the gulf doesn't vote, therefore it isn't anybody's pet project.

Funny story

I still laugh at how my sister-in-law handled a robocall from a “psychic” a few years ago. She asked them if they could predict the future. When they said “yes,” she said “then you know what going to happen next.” Click.

Wrong side

Mississippi always remains on the wrong side of history.

Just hang up

The person who wrote the "shut it down" Sound Off is not getting robocalls if there's an actual person to interact with. A robocall is a phone call that uses a computerized autodialer to deliver a pre-recorded message, as if from a robot. I deal with robocalls by hanging up as soon as I know it's a recorded message.

No such thing

I receive calls that come in under local business names, but claim they are AT&T selling DirecTV. When asked why the number was wrong I was told it was a feedback number. I told them there is no such thing, hung up and guess what? They quit calling.

One approach

“Keep it in,” I, too, used to read Sound Off first each day. Now, I check the obituaries first, because, if I am in there, I can take a much more lighthearted approach to Sound Off.

Early action

Seems to me the spillway could have been stopped way before it got to the point that it did. Couldn't government at a higher level have stopped this from becoming a disaster? Where are our legislators when we need them?

Security threat

All the Republican members that held up cell phones should be identified and their security clearances should be removed. They deliberately showed defiance to a law that pertained to all and is a potential security threat to the USA.

Too early

Do TV channels get paid by big retailers to show Christmas movies in October? Too early.
