Sound Off for July 11: Don’t like trade war? Buy U.S. goods.

The United States and China launched what Beijing called the “biggest trade war in economic history” Friday, July 6, imposing tariffs on billions of dollars of each other’s goods amid a spiraling dispute over technology. Vote no

Long Beach taxes are the highest on the Coast. Residents please get out and vote “no” for the school bond issue. We don’t need our taxes to go up. What we pay now is ridiculous compared to other cities on the Coast.

It’s debatable

It’s a known fact who started the trade war. It’s debatable if it is responsible and warranted.

Cigarettes are fire

Hospitals have lots of chemicals and almost unlimited oxygen pumped into rooms and carried on wheelchairs. That cigarette is fire. Join the smokers across the street, don’t incinerate me when my wheelchair goes past you.

Freedom to breathe

I work in health care. I would however like to speak as a private citizen and the parent of an adult asthmatic daughter: If my child tries to enter a public place where a person is smoking, it could send her to the ER. She should be afforded the freedom to breathe. Please get off your soap box, get a hold of yourself and keep your habit in private.

Prepare to pay more

The American consumer is the only one who can win the trade war. Just refuse to buy anything made in China. Oh, you have to be willing to pay a bit more for a shirt or toy to cover the higher labor cost, but isn’t it worth it to you? Apparently not, or we wouldn’t have the trade deficit we do.

Patrol the highways

We don’t need the added expense to equip the Sheriff’s Department with radar. The Highway Patrol is already tasked and equipped with handling speeding issues on highways. If anything, pressure should be put on them to perform their appointed duties. The sheriff’s department needs to stick with their appointed duties to assist and protect the citizens of the county.

Not that bad

I didn’t know there were so many people who had so much pent up hostility for people enjoying a summer holiday. It’s some fireworks. Not the Battle of the Bulge. I’m a veteran. Trust me. I don’t run off cowering in a corner.

Rulings are faithful

Brett Kavanaugh’s rulings are faithful to the Constitution and precedence. He is definitely not an activist judge changing the intent of the Constitution to the ever-changing whims of society. The effect of judicial activism is like changing the rules of a football game while the game is still in progress.

Living afraid

I have never been so afraid in my life as I am now with Trump as president. Now he has announced his Supreme Court pick, who, if pushed through Congress, will allow any and all kinds of illegal activities at the highest levels of government. This may be the final nail in the coffin turning us into a fascist Russian satellite.
