Sound Off for March 8: School buses should not have seat belts

Two terms, that’s it

Let’s think about electing the first Senatorial candidate who promises a personal limit of two terms.

I’m thinking “no”

I now say NO to seatbelts on school buses. After seeing escapes from wrecked or burning buses, seconds count. Children can panic, become hysterical and young ones forget how to unbuckle to get out. What if the driver is unconscious and can’t help young children get out of the seat? These serious questions made me change my mind.

Mississippi strong

With the state’s U.S. Senate seats up for grabs in November elections, it would be great to see a man with proven experience put his name in the hat and run. That man who worked for the people he represented, held town hall meetings and voted for what was right regardless of party line. I would like to see Gene Taylor run, as Democrat or Republican, I would vote for him.

NFL disgrace

The owner of the Miami Dolphins has now stood up for dignity and honor, requiring all players to stand for the national anthem. Hopefully other team owners will follow suit and choose to respect our country, its flag and our honor.

Do something meaningful

Having an out-of-state tag might mean that the owner of the vehicle has a residence in another state where the car is registered. You have to have proof that you are a resident to get a tag for that state. Maybe the people questioning license plates should volunteer, take a class or do something meaningful other than monitor license plates.

What’s wrong

Where did young parents learn to raise their children without using the word “no” and let them run crazy wherever they go? I’ll bet these young parents were not raised like that and neither was I. Besides they are in for a rude awakening when they grow up and have to deal with laws. Maybe that’s part of what’s wrong with our society.

Compassionate funding

Hancock Bank has been known to be in the forefront of opening “compassionate accounts” in the event of personal/family misfortunes. They should be congratulated for their concern. Is there any way to learn what accounts are available for contributions? Ever since it has been exposed that the online GoFundMe accounts can be manipulated, I prefer the Hancock Bank route.

Be accessible

I’m shopping at Crossroads and just witnessed a person in a wheelchair not able to get past the front door of a business. What can be done?

Here’s when ...

I’ll recycle when they give me a can that won’t topple over.
