Sound Off for January 15: Why should upstate lawmakers get any of the BP settlement?
DIY insulation
Saw a great idea on DIY. During these very cold days if you need double or even triple pane windows just get bubble wrap, cut to size, wet window and apply. It sticks beautifully and keeps your window insulated for not only cold days but very hot days as well saving on our heating and A/C bills. It’s easy to apply and take down and lets light through.
Family first
The care of elderly is the responsibility of the children not the government. Get off the socialist soapbox and take care of your parents. Please don’t leave my grandchildren with the bill!
Immoral?
The Sun Herald’s editorial on supporting a state lottery is wrong and immoral. Also stating that allowing just the Powerball and Mega Millions is enough, is wrong and immoral. I have it set up where my brother in Alabama buys my lottery ticket in exchange for me paying his annual Sirius XM satellite bill. Mississippians can set up the same type of arrangement and keep this immorality out of our state. However, once my wife leaves her casino job on the Gulf Coast then I am for every type of lottery, especially those $1,000,000 scratch offs.
No brainer
Someone presses a button by accident at a shift change that panics millions of people. Are you kidding me? If I try to delete something on my computer, I am asked if I really want to do it. I am given a buffer time before my house alarm is activated. But to send a message to millions that a missile is about to hit them is just a mistaken button pushed. You should not be able to press this button by accident, and if you did there should immediately be large flashing messages and loud audible alarms — no brainer!
Rationalize away
I’m just now getting around to catching up on my daily Sun Herald newspapers and can’t, for the life of me, comprehend how upstate lawmakers can possibly even rationalize in their brains why they think they deserve a penny of the BP settlement.
Not so simple
The majority of people on Medicaid are the elderly with less than $1,300 income per month and children also called CHIP which Congress let expire. Now, in order to receive Medicaid, these old folks have to out and find a job which will put them over the limit. As for the kids, I am assuming their moms will have to find a minimum wage job while leaving her kids unfed and unsupervised! In other words, no insurance for the poor!
Blame game
Drugs may have been a contributing factor, but they are not to blame. That thought process is what’s wrong with our society in this day and age.
