Sound Off for August 1: Deputy shooting proves that all cops should wear cameras

Biloxi police patrolmen Steven Dorcik, right, and Aaron Allen show the body cameras their officers were wearing in 2015. The system was not specifically designed for police work, but was used until the department bought a better system in 2016.

I’ll pay for it

I’d much rather have my tax dollars pay for hormones and surgery for transgender troops than one of Trump’s golf outings.

My head is spinning

Appears the entrance to the White House is now a revolving door.

Equal treatment

Scaramucci uses the “F bomb” in a closed, one-on-one interview, where he didn’t expect it to be repeated, and it is the end of the civilized world. Vice President Biden throws out the “F bomb” in a packed room at the unveiling of Obamacare and the same media chuckles and says, “That’s just Joe being ‘Old Joe.’” I don’t approve of either one, but can we have just a tiny bit of equal treatment?

Cause and effect

You’re right, body cameras in their own right don’t save lives. But if the deputy had been wearing one when he was shot, the person who shot him may very well be apprehended by now — which may very well save lives. It’s called cause and effect.

Valuable equipment

You really think body cameras for officers have “questionable value?” In this day and age, anything that helps with accountability and professionalism has a great deal of value.

I vote for voting

Here’s a novel idea. Let’s vote on the state flag.

Bad life lesson

Parents, when you criticize strangers loudly out in public, the only thing you’re teaching your child is how to act like a fool.

Priorities?

The football team featured in today’s paper has 34 players and nine coaches. That is 3.8 players per coach. Teachers who are teaching reading to students sometimes have as many as 25 students in a class, but coaches teaching football skills only have three to four players to teach. Makes one wonder about our educational system.

Fresh start needed

President Trump has done the right thing by firing Priebus and Spicer. Those two gentlemen were deeply embedded in the Republican Party. People should remember that the Republican Party did not embrace the president during the primaries. We need a totally fresh start in American leadership.

Leash your dog

Why are people walking their dog but not using a leash? I should be able to walk my dog without fear of him being attacked by another dog with irresponsible owners. Use a leash.
