Sound Off for July 24: Lights on 90 won’t synch

Quit complaining!

People should realize that you cannot synchronize traffic lights on U.S. 90 because there are many intersections that have demand lights. These lights change when a car reaches the intersection and causes the light to change. You might as well quit complaining.

Not worth it

I’m retired and will never buy another house. With the high insurance rates, high taxes, yardwork and upkeep, it’s not worth the time, money or worry.

Wise advice

Learned not to give advice, because wise men don’t need it and fools won’t heed it.

Proud of mayors

I commend the mayors of both Ocean Springs and Pascagoula for proudly displaying our Mississippi state flag.

Me, too

I agree with Disheartening. Gulfport is discouraging recycling. One way to encourage it is to give a discount to those who recycle. The money earned from all the new recycling will pay for the discount.

Privatize it

The government needs to get out of the flood insurance business. More private companies would jump in if they didn’t have to compete with a not-for-profit business subsidized by our taxes. As for the “rich” people by the water. I would guess one out of 100 houses that have flood insurance are actually “waterfront” homes.

Read ‘Roll Call’

People should read how our politicians voted on bills in the paper called “Roll Call.” It is right there before your eyes who cares about our country, our people and our environment. No disputing. And who doesn’t.

Good movies

Our grandson was here for the summer and wanted to go to a movie. When’s the last time you saw a Walt Disney movie that was rated “G”? What would be in a Walt Disney movie that it would be rated “PG”? How about language, violence. Too bad ole’ Walt is not around.

City flag?

All this fuss about Ocean Springs flying the State flag. Since Ocean Springs is a city and not a state, why don’t they come up with an Ocean Springs City Flag? Have a contest to pick the best one.

Step down

Senator McCain — you have truly done your duty, and I wish you all the best as you recover. With all due respect, please step down from your Congressional seat for the good of our country.
