Sound Off for May 16: Comey firing leads to more questions
Au revoir, ABC
Now that ABC has taken the only show worth watching, “Last Man Standing,” off television, I am saying goodbye to ABC.
It’s a fiefdom
The story from Sunday’s Sun Herald regarding Wisconsin’s new voter ID law is frightening. One party is ruling every branch of federal government as well as a majority of state houses. This country has become a fiefdom. Unfettered power and no more checks or balances. With every executive order Trump signs and laws being passed like the one in Wisconsin, our republic is being chipped away. If we do not wake up soon and truly see what is happening, I deeply fear for the future of this country.
Just once
I wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to all the stepmothers who were overlooked this weekend. My father remarried a wonderful woman who made him happy and took good care of him. My sisters and I never bothered to get to know her and did not appreciate all she did not only for Dad but for all of us as well. After she died last year, I finally understood what she did for everybody, especially around the holidays when we were all still blindly dedicated to being with my mother and excluding Dad and my stepmother on every special occasion nearly 20 years later. I wish we had been more appreciative. It would have been so easy to wish her Happy Mother’s Day just once.
Ask hard questions
With the firing of FBI director Comey, Trump is showing (again) that he easily fires people who don’t agree with him. So who will stand up to him? Congress is rolling over. The only ones left are the media and the judicial system. It disturbs me that so many people do not understand that the very important role of the media is not to accept everything the president says, but to question, to ask the hard questions. God bless them.
Thank you
Heartfelt thanks and blessings to female staff and patrons at the Celtic Woman concert at the Coliseum. Your concern for the lady who almost fell on the stairs and your follow-up watchful eye show such care for other people. She will always remember your kindness and she will pay it forward.
Jarring view
It’s such a shame to visit the beach on such a beautiful day as we were given on Mother’s Day only to have scattered trash, diapers, bottles, all around you.
I’m flattered
I’m often told that I don’t take enough care of myself, and my appearance. Yet it flatters me to receive the acknowledgment of others, that vanity plays such a small role in my presentation of self.
