Scenes from the Beach | July 17, 2016
Of all the beach's summer wildflowers, the simple, white morning glory is most appealing. Growing profusely in dry sand, blooming from June to November, the flowers open their petals at daybreak, revealing golden throats. Seeking the first rays of sun, they face east expectantly, knowing precisely where the sun will rise. When the flowers have ingested sufficient sunshine, their petals close for the day, even if it is only noon. Poets have praised morning glories, as we do today.
