SCENES FROM THE BEACH | by George Thatcher / NOV. 22, 2015

SUN HERALD/FILE

Even in late November along our coastland, there are days like this one -- warm and sunny, more reminiscent of summer than approaching winter. A previous generation called such times "Indian summers."

Emily Dickinson wrote, "These are the days when birds come back, / A very few, a bird or two, / To take a backward look. / These are the days when skies put on / The old, old sophistries of June -- / A blue and gold mistake."*

We too view our blue sky and remember light-hearted June days.
