Creation didn’t have to happen 6,000 years ago

I appreciate Richard Webb’s effort to answer Mr. Simmonds’ “Modern science should factor into your beliefs” letter (May 11).

In addition to his comments, I would like to add that there are two recorded beginnings in the Bible.

The first one reads: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). All of creation, including the Earth, occurred at one time.

The other recorded beginning says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

The difficulty people have is comprehending the Bible’s use of “In the beginning.”

If you go to Genesis 1:2, it is indicated that the Earth was in a state of confusion and wasn’t compatible for the life he was going to create in the next six days. What many consider creation was actually a reconstruction project.

If you go to Revelation 12:4, you read where Satan, following his war in heaven, was cast down with all of his fallen angels to the Earth, his final abode, which is the reason Earth was in a state of confusion.

By this, we know the Earth is the same age as all of the creation, not 6,000 years old.

Modern science is only possible because God opened man’s mind.
