Thanks go to Rep. Scott DeLano, Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Mayor Andrew "FoFo" Gilich of Biloxi for their leadership in making sure the Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement from BP will go to Mississippi Coast communities that suffered the most from the oil spill.
The money will improve the Mississippi Sound's water quality, restore the fish and shellfish industries, put fishermen back to work and increase tourism revenues. Dead fish, dolphins and sea turtles, the absence of local seafood on restaurant menus and increasing reports of Vibrio-related illnesses or "flesh-eating bacteria" keep residents of the Coast away from the water and tourists away from the Coast.
Restore Mississippi Sound, a group of concerned citizens, supports efforts to clean the water, restore the Coast's economic base and hold state leaders accountable for spending the BP funds wisely.
