SCENES FROM THE BEACH | by George Thatcher / MARCH 13, 2016
Every year or so, we enjoy writing a column in praise of weeds, the plants that grace the margins of the beach road. Mowed regularly by beach tractors, the hardy plants come charging back, flourishing despite the tractors' cutting blades. The ones that we see this afternoon are green and pliant. In a few weeks, springtime will bring small, exquisite blossoms to a few plants. Weeds, like these, rise in our esteem when we recall that the God who made wildflowers also made weeds. -- Diary, winter 2016
