J.R. WILSON: Jobs are appreciated, but what about education?

So, our state legislators vote for Mississippi to borrow $263 million for a tire plant and $11 million for a shipyard, but they will not fully fund education.

One of our legislators was interviewed on the news saying he was for the allocations so we could keep jobs in Mississippi. That's a nice sentiment, but if you have an uneducated work force, who are the new businesses going to hire?

We continue to lag behind most Southern states in education, and apparently, our state government is content to stay that way.

J.R. WILSON
