ROBERT RASHKA: Left-lane drivers: Stop trying to control traffic

This letter is to all of the drivers who believe they own the left lane simply because they are driving the posted speed limit and are forcing the speeding lawbreakers to pass them on the right.

I believe you could be issued a traffic citation for disobeying the law that requires slower traffic to keep right. Notice I wrote "slower" traffic and not "slow" traffic. If car after car is passing you on the right, then you are the slower traffic.

It's possible you may also be cited for disrupting or obstructing the smooth flow of traffic.

If you have not been deputized by a law enforcement agency, you have no legal right to control the speed of traffic by driving the speed limit while in the left lane.
