JACK LITKE: Here's to a positive, happy new year

The Sun Herald's Dec. 31 cartoon page included Funky Winkerbean giving a New Year's Eve toast that should cheer the hearts of all the humanist/atheist/other doubters.

Funky says, "Here's to the death of hope and our slow shuffle to oblivion." In the next frame, another person responded by saying, "This is the last year that Funky makes the toast." Another one said, "Amen to that."

If "no hope and oblivion" are the mantras of these people, then they have my sympathy. What a life ... or lack of one. My prayer is that soon they will know the truth, and the truth shall set them free from hopelessness and the bleak future of oblivion.
