KAY SEMSKI: The Civil War happened, New Orleans

I read with some distress the story regarding New Orleans considering the removal of some of the monuments of Confederate generals (Dec. 18).

Surely they jest! Are we to think we can rewrite history? New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu being in favor of this is unthinkable to me.

The Civil War happened, and the Confederate generals did their job just as the Union generals did theirs.

New Orleans mayor and city leaders, please have some sense.
