LIZ YOUNG: Keep budgeting for gifted students

In the era of school budget cuts and the elimination of programs, gifted education has proven to be money well spent.

Harrison County School District has four National Merit Scholar semifinalists this year, and two of these students made a perfect score on the ACT. These four students were in the Gifted Program in Harrison County until the eighth grade.

Gifted education provides students with 21st-century skills that emphasize leadership, critical thinking, creative problem solving, communication and creativity.

Let's continue to provide the best education to all students, including our future leaders.
