Views from readers: Voting against Trump + counting the census

Voting against Trump

Contrary to the recent letter to the editor where the writer claims 10 reasons to re-elect President Donald Trump, I can think of over 20,000-plus reasons why I would not vote to re-elect him.

These are the documented number of lies or false misleading claims Trump has made, according to the Washington Post.

Also, we are not voting for an administration as the writer spouts. We are voting for or against a president.

Will the American people continue to be duped by Trump like Germany was by Adolph Hitler?

The choice is yours Nov. 3.

Owning a gun

It is true that every person in the United States has Second Amendment rights.

However, I do agree that if the citizen is a convicted felon, then that citizen does not need to own a firearm or any weapon until the citizen has shown that he or she has proved that he or she can merge with the rest of society and follow the laws of the country as well as the laws of the state he or she resides in.

Unfortunately, many citizens live in worry or fear that either the state he or she resides in or the federal government would believe that if a person has a mental condition, the state the he or she resides in or the federal government of this country will try to take his or her Second Amendment right due to invalid reasons.

In conclusion, I adamantly believe that every citizen should be able to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights.

Census count

I was talking to a friend the other day who is an attorney and proposed this question: If a person spends the winter months in Biloxi and the summer months in New York, should they not be able to fill in a census form for each place.?

He explained that you can only fill in a form for your legal place of residence.

So I guess that means we can’t count tourists and up Mississippi’s congressional count? No, it must be the legal place of residence. That being the case, why should other states get to count illegal residents?

Taking my chances

We, as American citizens, were told we had to lower the curve. We did and hats off to everyone.

Now we are told that in most states the curve has to be in place before the economy is opened up.

This entire thing is political. I’m going to take my chances.

I prefer my freedom and my country above any government control.

Right now the government is in control. It is your choice, free state or police state.
