A bad choice
As a fan of college football and in particular the Mississippi State Bulldogs I was shocked and disappointed during last month’s Egg Bowl when Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore did the urinating dog celebration. He has since apologized to his teammates, coaches and Ole Miss fans but not to Mississippi State fans.
It’s a shame that he chose to celebrate in that manor in a game that was one for the ages. As a Bulldog fan I know the animosity between State and Ole Miss, it is one of the best rivalries in college football and goes back to 1901. That type of touchdown celebration has no place in college football.
I get that he was excited after scoring what could have been the tying score, if going for the extra point or possibly a winning 2 point conversion. Up to that point in the game it had been hard fought on both sides, and had both State and Ole Miss fans on pins and needles for the entire game. That “celebration” on a national stage was uncalled for and in very poor taste. It would have been nice if both the player and Ole Miss would have also apologized to Mississippi State and Bulldog nation as well.

A high cost
The Mississippi Aquarium is managing to stir up controversy again - this time for the outrageous cost for memberships it is charging.
An independent report came out not long ago that raised concerns about the aquarium not meeting income and attendance projections. The admission fees and membership fees can prevent many from ever setting foot inside and may discourage repeat attendance.
The recently announced membership fees of $345 for a family of four - significantly more than other facilities of comparable size - will be an exorbitant amount that many families on the Coast will struggle to accommodate and leads one to wonder if the aquarium is attempting to make up for negative prospects before construction has even been completed.
The aquarium bills itself as being all about community while holding dolphins captive, which is objectionable to many in this same community. It seems clear in light of these high fees that the Mississippi Aquarium either doesn’t understand the community it is in, or it doesn’t care.

Do nothing attitude
I agree 100% with the letter written by Malcolm McBee in the Dec. 8 paper about the problem with electronic water meters.
There is no reason for it taking this long to fix their problem and the customers should not have to pay for this long, drawn out repair. Poor leadership is exactly what this is.
It’s time for getting things done in the right manner and not just a lot of pretty up the place in Gulfport like our mayor wants to do. Election time can not come soon enough.

Switching parties
After watching the several committee meetings about impeachment of the president, I’ve become a Democrat. The Republican attitude and behavior showed a reverence, not to the country or the party, but to an individual: Trump. The evidence for impeachment was sufficient to take the allegations seriously. But the GOP pooh-poohed and belittled with a “we’re above it all” attitude and you Dems are just playing politics.
Their alternative explanations were laughable. The lap-dog Senate will not oust Trump. He and future presidents now know that they can engage the aid of other countries to get elected, even if some arm-twisting is needed.
It looks too much like Germany in the 1930s, when it elected a man named Hitler who promised to make them great again.
