Our elections must be protected

I am beyond furious that the Republican-held Congress is doing nothing to protect this country from outside interference from Russia.

Since the 2016 election, there has been nothing done to protect our elections from Russian influence. The director of the CIA is telling us that Russia will most certainly attempt to influence campaigns and more — perhaps direct tampering with our voting systems to sway or corrupt elections.

It floors me that this is not a bipartisan issue of the highest order. It floors me that we have had no hearings, taken no action. It floors me that the Republican Congress is content to destroy American democracy for Donald Trump — an immoral man who has proven time and time again to be a corrupt, self-centered liar who is out for his own gain.

I am appalled that Republicans are choosing to put not party but Donald Trump ahead of country. Their inaction and inability to address issues such as lack of implementation of sanctions against Russia for their attack on our country is at best short-sighted and at worst, treasonous.

I have written to my elected officials to demand that they outline a plan to protect America from further Russian attacks, as well as a plan to force the administration to take action against Russia. Congress is a co-equal branch of government. If the president will not protect the United States, then Congress must.
