Letters to the Editor

There is more than one point of view

First off, let me say how much I appreciate Paul Hampton, Bill Crawford and several of our other Mississippians who write for the Sun Herald.

For months, or even a year or two, I have been missing some of the more liberal columnists, such as Maureen Dowd, Kathleen Parker, Paul Krugman and Leonard Pitts. I do see an editorial by Leonard Pitts occasionally, and less frequently Kathleen Parker. I can not remember the last time I read a good snarky column by Maureen Dowd. I know we are a red state, but there are a lot of us who reside here who are blue. I believe in reading the other point of view and do enjoy Walter Williams’ occasional column.

But on Aug. 20, I was aghast that Mike Fullilove was given a column praising President Donald Trump’s accomplishments! When I read his letters to the editor, which are published as frequently as allowed, I argue with him in my mind. I am sure he is a good conservative, Christian man, but in his writing he assumes that everyone who reads the Sun Herald is coming from his same point of view, and lectures us on why we should see things through his lens.

Give me Maureen Dowd occasionally, please.
