Sound Off for June 3
Gas prices
Government restrictions have nothing to do with limiting domestic oil production. That was an economic decision by the oil companies. Today’s gas cost has less to do with Putin than opportunistic corporate greed.
Support for students
While most teachers are competent and dedicated to their professions, it remains a sad fact that there are some who berate their students, engage in prejudicial name calling and also use corporal punishment when it is not legal. I recall a coach who made an entire class run laps up and down steep gymnasium bleacher steps, while giving licks to each one that passed, with a heavy paddle. When such atrocities as this happen, is it any wonder some angry young folks want to return with guns?
Good grief
How many times must we hear the excuse for not passing gun safety rules that they are trying to take away our guns?! Keep your stupid guns, just don’t sell assault weapons.
Copy cats
Almost every time there is a mass shooting of some kind, particularly school or workplace, a raft of copy cat incidents follow. That’s revealing as to how many people walk among us, who for mental health reasons, are ticking time bombs. It always engenders the same unfocused, knee jerk, emotional reactions from lawmakers who often have political motivations more than practical ideas for tangible, useful, preventive measures. Start with the bank of knowledge now known about the perpetrators instead of the tools.
Gun availability
I agree with gun availability. It goes like this: You cannot buy liquor or cigarettes until you are 21. But 18-year-old teens can buy a gun.
