The National Weather Service confirmed Thursday evening that a tornado did, in fact, touch down during a severe thunderstorm that resulted in several building collapses.

An NWS storm survey found tornado damage in a half-mile track from Marias and Annette streets to Claiborne Avenue and St. Phillip Street.

The tornado was classified as an EFO with winds up to 80 mph, according to NWS.

A photo gallery of the damage can be found at The New Orleans Advocate website.
