Tropical Storm Colin forms in Gulf

A tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico has strengthened to a tropical storm, forecasters said.

What is now Tropical Storm Colin has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

It is about 465 miles southwest of Tampa, Fla., and moving north at 12 mph. It is expected to reach the coast of Florida late Monday.

In South Mississippi, Harrison County emergency management director said minor flooding is possible around the Biloxi River near Lyman. The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Monday and fall back below flood stage by mid-morning.

River Road near the Three Rivers Road bridge could begin to flood.

There will be a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms on Monday, according to the National Weather Service, but clear skies should arrive by Tuesday.
