More than 6,000 residents were without power in Ocean Springs, but Mississippi Power crews restored power to the city by 8:15 p.m.
The outage was first reported on the power company's website about 6:30 p.m., and the affected area stretched across most of the city, including the downtown area. 6,200 customers were affected.
Bill Snyder, spokesman for Mississippi Power, said crews restored service to 1,100 people within the first 30 minutes of the outage. By 8 p.m., the lights were on for 1,800 more customers. 15 minutes later, Snyder said power was on across the city.
"We are assessing the situation and working to restore service to all customers as safely and quickly as possible," Sydner said.
The outage was caused by a breaker burnout.
Ocean Springs police said no roads were closed because of the outage.
