Tropical Storm Bonnie has caused tropical storm warnings and watches to be issued from the northwestern Bahamas and South Florida through the Keys and along the Gulf Coast from Destin to Morgan City, La., including the Mississippi Coast.
At 5 a.m., Bonnie was 155 miles southeast of Miami. Maximum winds were near 40 mph and the storm was moving west-northwest at 18 mph.
As the storm moves toward the Gulf, workers were leaving the area around the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill as precautionary measures.
The Hurricane Hunters out of Keesler Air Force Base continue to fly into the storm to gather information.
