ORIGINAL STORY

With a train of thunderstorms moving through, the National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for Northeastern Hancock, East Central Pearl River and Stone counties in South Mississippi.

The NWS says between 1 to 3.5 inches of rain has fallen, with an additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Rains will produce “flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas,” the NWS says.

Waterspouts also are expected over lakes and protected sounds.

A flash-flood warning runs until 2 p.m. for northeastern Hancock, east central Pearl River and Stone counties. The flash-flood warning in central Pearl River County ends at 1:30 p.m., the NWS says.

The warnings follow days of heavy rain that also flooded rivers in South Mississippi.
