Streets in Hancock County flooding as Nate inches toward Mississippi Coast

Police and emergency officials are reporting several flooded streets in low-lying areas in Hancock County.

Hancock County Emergency Manager Brian Adam said there are “quite a few streets flooded” and some of the latest readings indicated water about 5 feet above normal in low-lying areas.

The Weather Channel reported live about 9 p.m. that there was a storm surge of about 3-feet in Waveland.

Adam said several streets in Shoreline Park are flooded, and Bay St. Louis and Waveland police are calling in flooded areas as they are made aware of the situation.

Dwayne Bremer, a reporter at Sea Coast Echo, said some streets in Jourdan River Shores are flooding, and parts of Blue Meadow Road in Bay St. Louis are also flooded and only passable by truck.

Nate is projected to make landfall in Pass Christian, Long Beach or Gulfport. Officials say Pascagoula could see a substantial storm surge, as it’ll be on the “dirty side” of Nate’s eye.
