It feels like fall in South Mississippi. How long will the cooler weather last?

A cool, fall breeze that swept across South Mississippi on Monday morning will soon warm again, even though temperatures will stay slightly below normal all week.

Forecasters said the low of 64 degrees in Gulfport was probably the coolest since June. But it will not last: Afternoon temperatures will rise to the mid 80s. Tuesday will be slightly warmer and more humid.

“But it will still be fairly cool each morning,” said Hannah Lisney, a forecaster at the National Weather Service in Slidell.

The temperature dip, ushered in by a weak cold front, will mean cooler nights and warm afternoons through Tuesday. A few storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Forecasters are also predicting no tropical activity in the Atlantic for the next seven days.
