  • Jim Cantore visited Bay St. Louis, nearly 20 years after Hurricane Katrina.
  • Cantore praised the city's downtown revival with restaurants, art, and shops.
  • He may attend a storm chaser event hosted by Josh Morgerman this weekend.

Jim Cantore was spotted spending time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this week, in one of his favorite beach towns that has seen a huge rebirth since Hurricane Katrina.

The Weather Channel meteorologist, who famously rode out the 2005 storm in Gulfport, was in Bay St. Louis and spent time in the city’s downtown lined with restaurants, bars, boutiques and art galleries.

He posed for photos with servers at Trapani’s Eatery, one of the first restaurants to rebuild on North Beach Boulevard after Katrina devastated the downtown area.

Last year, Cantore shared he was “blown away” by the development of Bay St. Louis, one of the fastest growing cities in Mississippi, in the years since the monster storm changed everything in the Gulf Coast region.

“What a sweet scene filled with wonderful people and eats, shops, and scene,” Cantore said on Instagram during his previous visit. “Almost 20 years after Katrina this one of a kind coast will never be forgotten again.”

Cantore hasn’t publicly announced what he’s up to in Bay St. Louis, but he is one of many famed weather personalities who could be in attendance at storm chaser Josh Morgerman’s annual “hurricane house” party this Saturday.

Cantore attended the event last year to see Morgerman’s brand new house, built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane.

Cantore also now has ties to Louisiana. His girlfriend is a meteorologist from Broussard.
