Big changes to St. Patrick’s Day parades across MS Coast with threat of severe weather
One St. Patrick’s Day parade has been canceled and three have been rescheduled due to severe thunderstorms forecast to surge across the Mississippi Coast this weekend.
Forecasters said the storms could be severe, with wind gusts over 60 mph and hail larger than a quarter. Tornadoes are also possible.
The worst of the weather is expected Saturday afternoon and should end between 7 and 10 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
Waveland
Waveland’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will now roll at 2 p.m. Sunday on its original route, A.J. Andres, president of the Waveland Civic Organization, confirmed.
The parade was originally scheduled to roll at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Pass Christian
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Pass Christian is now rolling at 1 p.m. Sunday on its original route.
“We just made the decision this morning to move it to Sunday,” David Goff, a parade coordinator, said Thursday. “Everything else is the same, it’s just moving to Sunday.”
The parade was originally scheduled to roll at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Biloxi
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Biloxi will roll at noon on Saturday, according to Cecilia Dobbs Walton, the city’s public affairs manager.
The parade was originally scheduled to roll at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Clover N Kilts Festival is now scheduled Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other events are still scheduled for Saturday.
Pascagoula
The St. Patrick’s Night Parade in Pascagoula has been canceled, said Susannah Northrop, executive director at Main Street Pascagoula.
The parade was originally scheduled to roll at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
A live music event originally scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. has also been canceled. Northrop said the music group, the 1 Accord band, will play again at an upcoming event.
A bar crawl planned Saturday will continue as scheduled.
