Stores begin reopening but no trash removal in South MS. Here’s what’s open and closed
The snow will stick around another day or two with the cold temperatures in South Mississippi, but businesses are starting to reopen Wednesday, and schools and offices are considering how soon they can return to a normal schedule.
Many restaurants are reopening, although Tatonut Donut Shop in Ocean Springs had a very rare snow day Wednesday.
U.S. Postal Service advises that the snow in the Southeast may impact delivery of mail and packages. “Please allow additional time for final delivery of your item,” the website advisory notes.
Here’s what’s open and closed across the Coast:
Grocery stores
▪ ALDI stores in Ocean Springs and Pascagoula are closed Wednesday. They will reopen t 9 a.m. Thursday.
▪ Greer’s Markets in Hurley, Vancleave and Poplarville are closed Wednesday.
▪ Rouses Markets has opened Mississippi locations until 5 p.m. Wednesday with limited services and staff.
▪ Walmart stores open on Wednesday are: U.S. 49 in Gulfport, U.S. 90 in Waveland, Pass Christian, Ocean Springs and Pascagoula.
▪ Walmart stores closed Wednesday afternoon are the supercenters in D’Iberville and Biloxi, the Neighborhood Market in Ocean Springs and Popp’s Ferry Road in Biloxi and Sam’s Club in Gulfport.
▪ Walmart Neighborhood Market in Ocean Springs is closed Wednesday.
▪ Winn-Dixie stores in Long Beach and Ocean Springs are closed Wednesday.
Closings
▪ Big Play Entertainment Center in Biloxi is closed Wednesday.
▪ Coast Transit Authority bus service is expected to resume at 1 p.m. Thursday.
▪ Edgewater Mall in Biloxi is closed Wednesday and will reopen Thursday.
▪ Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is closed Wednesday and all flights are canceled. The runway and terminal will reopen as soon as conditions permit. Passengers are advised to continue checking with their air carriers.
▪ Harrison County offices and buildings, including the Chancery Court, will be closed Thursday and reopen Friday.
▪ Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula is suspending operations for all shifts Wednesday and Thursday.
▪ Keesler Air Force Base announces a base closure and non-training day on Wednesday and Thursday.
▪ Keesler Federal Credit Union branches in Louisiana, Alabama and South MS are closed Wednesday.
▪ Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport is closed Wednesday.
▪ Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport is closed Wednesday.
▪ Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi is closed Wednesday,
▪ Walgreens Pharmacy in Ocean Spring has reopened.
▪ Walter Anderson Museum of Art is closed Wednesday.
Trash collections
▪ Coastal Environmental in Hancock County will have no trash collection Wednesday. The adjusted schedule is here.
▪ Diamondhead — Collection is suspended for Thursday. Check here for pickup schedule.
▪ Harrison County Utility Authority solid waste routes will not run on Thursday. Routes will be adjusted: Tuesday’s routes will be picked up next week. Wednesday routes will run on Friday, Thursday routes on Saturday and Friday routes on Sunday.
▪ Waste Management has suspended all garbage and trash collection service in Harrison and Jackson counties, and surrounding areas Thursday. Wednesday’s service will be picked up Friday. Thursday’s service will be picked up Saturday. Friday’s service will be picked up Sunday. Tuesday service will be picked up on normal route next Tuesday.
▪ Waveland will only have one pickup of garbage this week. If your pickup is Monday/Thursday, then Monday will be your only pickup. If your pickup is Tuesday/Friday, then your only pickup will be Friday. Regular schedule should return next week.
Medical closings
▪ Coastal Family Health Center is closed Wednesday
▪ Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System facilities are closed Wednesday and will reopen at noon Thursday.
▪ Memorial Hospital walk-in clinics are closed Wednesday and Thursday. Check the schedule here. Memorial Urgent Care at 1104 Broad Ave. in Gulfport will be open from noon-4 p.m. Thursday. Virtual care through MemorialConnectNow is available 24/7 by calling 228-867-5000.
▪ Mississippi Health Departments in all Coast counties will be closed Wednesday.
▪ Ochsner Health clinics and outpatient facilities are closed Wednesday and appointments will be rescheduled. All urgent care locations are closed Wednesday and Thursday.
▪ Singing River Health System clinics, medical office buildings, imaging centers and the Neuroscience Center will remain closed through Wednesday. Elective surgeries scheduled for Wednesday have been delayed until noon.
