Saturday, Oct 5: NHC’s update on Category 3 Hurricane Kirk

As per the National Hurricane Center's 5 am Saturday update, the Category 4 hurricane Kirk has weakened into a Category 3 hurricane. Category 3 Hurricane Kirk is 990 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and 1575 miles west-southwest of the Azores, with maximum sustained wind of 125 mph. It’s moving 13 mph to the north-northwest.

"Weakening is forecast through early next week, but Kirk will remain a large hurricane for the next couple of days." meteorologists state.

, with sustained winds of 125 miles per hour, Kirk has downgraded from a Category 4 hurricane to a Category 3 hurricane.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

SURF: Swells generated by Kirk are affecting the Leeward Islands, Bermuda, and the Greater Antilles. These swells are expected to spread westward to the east coast of the United States, Atlantic Canada, and the Bahamas Saturday night and Sunday, and to the Azores on Monday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
