Thousands lose electricity in Jackson County after tornado. See power outage maps here.

Thousands of Jackson County, Mississippi homes are without power after severe weather and a tornado ripped through the area.

The tornado was confirmed around 3 p.m. Monday and caused damage to homes, power lines and at least one church in Moss Point.

Jackson County was under a flash flood warning and tornado warning earlier in the day.

In total, about 6,000 people are without power as of 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Singing River Electric reports more than 500 homes without electricity as of 4 p.m. Monday, many in Gautier and Moss Point. There is no known time for restoration, according to their website.

Mississippi Power reports nearly 5,000 people without power in Jackson County, primarily in Moss Point.

“Severe weather has caused wide spread outages. We apologize for any inconvenience and we are working to restore power. We will provide updates as more details become available,” Mississippi Power said on their website.
