1 dead in Louisiana, 1 tornado confirmed in South MS after twisters ravage New Orleans area

A tornado that first spawned on the Louisiana Northshore also touched down in Picayune, the first to be confirmed in South Mississippi during severe weather Tuesday night, Nola.com reported.

About 300 homes were without power across the Coast after a line of thunderstorms producing strong winds and heavy rains tore through the Deep South, according to power company outage maps.

Multiple tornadoes were reported in the New Orleans metro, including Arabi and the Lower 9th Ward. Multiple media outlets are reporting widespread damage in St. Bernard Parish.

At least one person died in the Arabi tornado, the St. Bernard Parish president confirmed to Nola.com

The tornado that touched down in Picayune first touched down in St. Tammany Parish.

Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties are under a tornado watch until 11 p.m.
