List of South Mississippi school closures, cancellations due to Hurricane Sally

Schools in South Mississippi on Sunday started announcing cancellations ahead of Tropical Storm Sally.

Here are the latest school closings:

Bay-Waveland School District

No classes Monday or Tuesday.

Biloxi School District

Biloxi schools released students one hour early on Monday. Biloxi schools will move to distance learning Tuesday and Wednesday. This instruction will not be online because of potential power outages. Teachers provided materials to the students on Monday.

Coast Catholic schools

Catholic schools in Jackson, Harrison, Hancock and Pearl River counties will be closed Wednesday for virtual and in-person learning. Sacred Heart School in Hattiesburg will be open.

Coast Episcopal Church

The school in Long Beach will be closed Tuesday and will monitor conditions to make a decision regarding Wednesday.

George County Schools

George County schools are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gulfport School District

There will be no classes on Tuesday, and a decision will be made early Wednesday morning on whether students will return to class that day.

Hancock County School District

The school is closed Tuesday for regular classes and distance learning. The district will be on schedule for distance learning Wednesday, when all students are scheduled as distance learners.

Harrison County School District

Harrison County will have no classes, in-person or virtual, on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Jackson County School District

No classes Tuesday and Wednesday.

Long Beach School District

The Long Beach School District will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to the possibility of severe weather with hurricane-force wind and significant rainfall. Please monitor the school district website for all updates.

Moss Point School District

MPSD will continue 100% virtual learning on Monday and Tuesday. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered for both days on Monday.

Ocean Springs School District

School is closed Tuesday. Officials will monitor conditions and announce a decision on Wednesday classes.

Pascagoula-Gautier School District

Schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Decisions on additional closures will be made on a day-to-day basis.

Pass Christian School District

School buildings will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. As conditions allow, students will participate in distance learning provided by their teachers via Canvas.

Pearl River County Schools

Schools are closed Tuesday. A decision for Wednesday classes will be announced by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Saint Stanislaus

All in person and distance learning classes canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.

Stone County Schools

Schools will be closed Tuesday.

Colleges

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

All MGCCC locations and centers will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Residence Halls will remain open, and the dining hall will provide meals to those students.

University of Southern Mississippi

USMs operations on the Gulf Coast, including Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Marine Research Center in Gulfport, and at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, will be closed on Tuesday, and classes won’t meet.

William Carey University

The Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University will resume normal operations Wednesday. The Tradition campus will remain closed due to adverse weather conditions.
