List of MS Coast school closures for Marco and Tropical Storm Laura
Community colleges and local school districts on Sunday started announcing cancellations ahead of two tropical systems potentially impacting the Mississippi Coast.
Hurricane Marco is forecast to start affecting the area early Monday and last into Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Laura is forecast to be a hurricane before landfall sometime Wednesday. Although the track has been shifting west, the National Hurricane Center warns it will be a large, strong storm with impacts well outside of the forecast cone.

Tuesday school announcements:
Biloxi Public Schools
School is scheduled to resume as normal on Tuesday.
George County School District
Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday. “We will continue to monitor the status of Tropical Storm Laura and make adjustments to schedules if necessary,” the district wrote on Facebook.
Hancock County School District
Classes resume Tuesday. A decision about closings for Wednesday and Thursday will be made Tuesday.
Ocean Springs School District
The district anticipates opening as normal on Tuesday.
Our Lady Academy
The school will be open on Tuesday.
Pascagoula-Gautier School District
Classes resume Tuesday.
Poplarville School District
Schools will open as normal Tuesday.
Saint Stanislaus
The high school will resume all classes and activities Tuesday and continue to monitor tropical activity.
Tuesday college announcements:
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
All campuses and centers will be open Tuesday, with regular hours of operation, and in-person classes will resume as scheduled.
Pearl River Community College
All campuses will resume regular operations at 8 a.m. Tuesday Continue to check the college’s website and social media outlets for updates on Tropical Storm Laura.
Monday school closings:
Bay-Waveland School District — All athletics canceled Monday, but no class cancellations announced.
Biloxi Public Schools — No school Monday. Classes scheduled to resume Tuesday.
Catholic Diocese of Biloxi — All classes at Catholic schools in Jackson, Harrison, Hancock and Pearl River counties canceled in-person and online classes Monday.
Coast Episcopal School of Long Beach — All in-person and online classes canceled Monday.
George County School District — Classes and extracurricular activities canceled Monday.
Gulfport School District — GSD will operate on a 60% schedule Monday.
Release times:
- Elementary Schools - 11:30 a.m.
- Middle Schools - noon
- High Schools - 12:30 p.m.
Hancock County School District — Schools closed for in-person and distance learning Monday. A decision on Tuesday will be made after meeting with the county’s emergency management team.
Harrison County School District — Schools closed Monday.
Jackson County School District —No school on Monday.
Moss Point School District —School will not be canceled. Online learning will continue as planned.
Ocean Springs School District — OSSD will operate on a 60% day schedule on Monday. All extracurricular events and activities are canceled.

- Ocean Springs Upper Elementary - 11:25 a.m.
- E.H. Keys AEC - 12:25 p.m.
- Ocean Springs Middle School - 12:35 p.m.
- Ocean Springs High School - 12:57 p.m.
Our Lady Academy — In-person and online classes canceled Monday.
Pascagoula-Gautier School District — Classes canceled Monday and will resume Tuesday.
Pass Christian School District — Schools closed Monday, and a decision on Tuesday will be made late Monday afternoon.
Picayune School District — Closed Monday.
Poplarville School District — Classes canceled Monday.
Stone County School District — Classes canceled Monday.
Colleges
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College — All in-person classes on all campuses canceled Monday. All instruction will continue online.
Pearl River Community College — All campuses will be closed Monday, and online instruction will continue. Residents halls remain open.
Allied Health, Nursing and Career and Technical Education students should communicate with their instructors for additional information.
Saint Stanislaus College — In-person and online classes canceled Monday.
University of Southern Mississippi — USM’s in-person operations on the Gulf Coast, including the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, the Marine Research Center in Gulfport, and at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, will be closed on Monday.
All online course delivery and remote work will continue.
William Carey University — At the Tradition campus in Harrison County, classes are canceled for Monday and offices are closed.
On the Baton Rouge campus, classes are canceled and offices are closed for Monday and Tuesday.
On the Hattiesburg campus, offices will be open and classes will meet as scheduled. The school will assess the weather forecast Monday morning and make a further announcement about Monday night classes by mid-day.
