List: Mississippi Coast closings, cancellations, more due to Tropical Storm Cristobal

Tropical Storm Cristobal is forecast to impact South Mississippi over the weekend and into Monday. It could bring winds and significant rainfall. Cities and counties across the Coast are declaring states of emergency.

Biloxi’s Blessing of the Fleet ceremony on Sunday has been postponed, along with other events. Here is a list of emergency information and closings:

Closings and cancellations

The Blessing of the Fleet for shrimp and pleasure boats will be moved from this weekend to Sunday, June 14, with the ceremonial wreath dropped at 2 p.m. to honor deceased fisherman. The Blessings mass at St. Michael Church will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, and the Shrimp King & Queen Pageant will follow and be live streamed at 6 p.m. on the Biloxi Blessing Facebook page.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic at Point Cadet in Biloxi is postponed for a week because of Tropical Storm Cristobal. Registration will be on Wednesday, June 10. The boats depart Thursday and return Saturday for weigh-in, with social distancing observed.

Ship Island ferry service, which was delayed by the coronavirus, now is delayed because of the approach of Tropical Storm Cristobal. Ferry service and island operation will begin on Wednesday, June 10.

The Moss Point Visionary Circle free testing for coronavirus scheduled for Saturday is postponed a week until June 13. It will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Moss Point Riverfront Recreation Center, 4400 Denny St.

The Red, White and Blueberry Festival scheduled for Saturday in downtown Ocean Springs is canceled. Ocean Springs Fresh Market will be open from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, and will have Mississippi homegrown blueberries.

Shelter and transportation

Coast Transit Authority is prepared to assist Harrison County residents with evacuation transportation to and from hurricane shelters.

Register for this free service at coasttransit.com or call 228-896-8080 to get an application. Spanish speaking operators are available.

Two carry-on items per person will be allowed on the bus — either two bags or one bag and one pet carrier. CTA also needs to know about any special medical needs.
