Bryce Humphrey was no stranger to seeking open air adventure.

He “was a true outdoorsman — he loved everything hunting and fishing related,” family members said of the 8-year-old Mississippi boy. “He could out-fish most grown men.”

Now, loved ones are mourning his loss after a tragic ATV accident.

Bryce died Monday, Oct. 16, nearly a week after he was critically injured in the crash, multiple outlets reported, citing the Covington County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened Oct. 10 in a hay field in Seminary, deputies told WHLT. Authorities said Bryce’s grandfather went into a home and came back outside to see the ATV overturned with the 8-year-old pinned under it.

Bryce was taken to a hospital and died from his injuries days later.

Authorities didn’t release additional details about the accident or the suspected cause.

Family members said Bryce was “a friend to everyone” and was best known for his “contagious” smile, according to an online obituary.

“He is remembered for his loving, caring, and thoughtful personality,” it reads. “He enjoyed waking up early every day to feed his dog Pancho, fix his mama’s coffee and his sister’s water bottle, and get ready for school.”

Like most kids, Bryce also enjoyed riding his bike and playing baseball, relatives said.

“His generosity and compassion for others far exceeded his years,” they added.

Bryce’s funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 20, according to his obituary.

Seminary is about 70 miles southeast of downtown Jackson.
