‘Unforgettable’ 11-year-old dies when SUV hits her near mailbox, Mississippi family says
Jay Stokes said his daughter had “an unforgettable personality.” Now the Mississippi father is mourning the loss of his beloved little girl.
“You will always be my #1,” he said of 11-year-old Sydnee Claire Stokes. “You were loved be everyone ... This is something no parent is supposed to go through.”
Sydnee died Tuesday, Feb. 21, after she was struck and killed by a car in Louisville, Mississippi, police and news outlets reported. Authorities said the crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. near a mailbox, according to WLBT and WJTV.
The girl was taken to a hospital where she died, according to WTVA.
“I don’t know why you had to leave this earthly body so soon, but everyone has their purpose in life,” Jay Stokes wrote on Facebook. “You are dancing in heaven tonight, I’m so jealous.”
In a similar tribute, a family friend said Sydnee “would light up any room you walked in” and “made an impact on everyone you met.”
Additional information about the crash, including possible charges against the driver, wasn’t immediately available.
McClatchy News reached out to Louisville police Feb. 22 and was awaiting a response.
Louisville is about 95 miles northeast of Jackson.
