Castle in Mississippi gives Zillow Gone Wild ‘murder mystery’ vibes. See why
A picturesque estate that happens to be an iconic Jackson, Mississippi, landmark has graced the real estate market for $1.47 million.
It’s called The Castle and it’s “architecturally significant as one of the best examples of Tudor Revival residential architecture” in the Hospitality State, the listing on Zillow.com says.
“Memphis architect J. Frazier Smith studied in England in the 1920’s and was heavily influenced by English Tudor design ,” the listing goes on to say. “When he returned home he was inspired to design a home to reflect what he’d seen abroad. Construction began in 1927 and was completed in 1930.”
A massive renovation of the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom castle went down in 2005 when the home was “modernized” to best suit a current lifestyle, which included:
Rewiring
Replumbing
New paint
Refreshing the floors
Creating a wine cellar
Restoring the roof
Resurfacing the pool
The popular real estate social media page Zillow Gone Wild posted photos of the 7,542-square-foot residence on its Facebook and Twitter feeds, and fans were in awe.
“This house is beautiful,” one person said. “Very tastefully decorated.”
“What a beautiful house! You could pick that up and place right in the UK and it look at home there too,” another noted.
“When I see an American castle on the market, I’m always prepared to snicker and guffaw at the images,” someone said. “Whoa. Not this one. Nice work!”
