Coast eatery ranks among the best restaurants to treat mom for Mother’s Day, Yelp says
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is home to one of the best restaurants to grab a bite with mom on her special day, Yelp says.
Half Shell Oyster House in Gulfport ranked sixth among the nation’s Top 100 Spots for Mother’s Day, according to the review website. It’s the sole Mississippi restaurant to make it onto the list, earning a coveted spot in the top 10.
For the rankings, Yelp looked at businesses in the restaurant category that had a high concentration of reviews mentioning Mother’s Day and ranked them using several factors “including the total volume and ratings of reviews.” Restaurants with a passing health score as of April 26 were included on the list, and results were limited to three restaurants per metro area “to ensure geographic diversity,” the company said.
Guests at Half Shell Oyster House can enjoy fresh seafood and Southern fare as part of a dining experience that “offers a relaxed, yet classic vibe reminiscent of the French Quarter” in New Orleans, according to the restaurant’s website.
Online, reviewers raved about the royal red shrimp, crab cakes and charbroiled oysters, according to the eatery’s Yelp profile. But that’s not all. Diners can sink their teeth into classics like the Orleans Shrimp and Grits, and Voodoo Shrimp Po-Boy, the dinner menu shows.
It’s not Mother’s Day without brunch, which Half Shell Oyster House also offers. Mimosas are available by the glass to wash down the Eggs Benedict or Bananas Foster French Toast.
You can also order ahead if you’re pressed for time, or have the meal delivered straight to mom’s door, the restaurant’s website says.
Overall, Yelp users gave Half Shell Oyster House — which has six Mississippi locations — 4.5 out of 5 stars.
So which restaurant took the top spot? Yelp named Cafe Monarch in Scottsdale, Arizona, as the best place to treat mom on Mother’s Day.
