A processing error led to the deactivation of more than 14,000 P-EBT cards for children in Mississippi, the state Department of Human Services announced.

A processing error is to blame for the deactivation of more than 14,000 P-EBT cards for children across Mississippi, state officials said Tuesday.

The glitch occurred Monday and impacted thousands of P-EBT cards for kids whose first or last names contain an apostrophe, according to a news release. The state’s Department of Human Services and Department of Education were made aware of the issue Tuesday.

“We apologize for this error made by our contractual vendor,” officials said in the release. “Children will not lose any benefits because of this error.”

Parents of those affected do not have to contact the P-EBT call center, as new cards have been issued and mailed, according to state officials. Families can expect to receive a replacement card with their unspent benefits in the mail within 7-10 business days.
