What is stating the obvious? ‘Jeopardy!’ clue on Mississippi Coast town stumps players

“Jeopardy!” contestants were stumped when it came time to answer a clue about a historic port city on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast.

Despite being the state’s second-largest city and home to “America’s largest block party,” no one guessed Gulfport.

It was the answer to a $1000 “Jeopardy!” clue Monday night in a category titled “Geographic Stupid Answers”: “This port on the Gulf of Mexico was founded by Captain Hardy & is co-seat with Biloxi of Harrison County.”

The clue drew crickets from all three players, even five-day “Jeopardy!” champion Jonathan Fisher. Fisher, a Florida native, dethroned Matt Amodio last week after an impressive 38-game winning streak.

“What is Gulfport?” host Mayim Bialik finally told the contestants before resuming the game, which Fisher won.

The flub drew the ire of at least a few Coast natives who took to social media to air their grievances.

“My hometown made it on #jeopardy and no one got the correct answer,” Twitter user @TessaBlue18 wrote.

A Facebook user was just happy to have his hometown mentioned on the iconic trivia show, writing: “Gulfport, we made it on Jeopardy!

“Gulfport was just a Jeopardy answer! Not sure I’m crazy about the category name!!” another person commented. “No one guessed it!!
