Police say a north Mississippi girl was fatally shot by her brother while he and several children played with a gun.

Authorities in Horn Lake tell news outlets that the shooting happened at a house near Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday while the children played unsupervised.

The 12-year-old girl was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her chest and later died. Police say her brother, also 12, was shot through the hand before the bullet struck his sister.

The children have not been named.

Authorities are still investigating where the gun came from and who owns it. They haven’t determined if charges will be filed.
