Mississippi lawmakers have some interesting ideas about education
Here are some of the bills dealing with education in this session of the Legislature:
SB 49: Prohibit school district personnel from engaging in political activity while in performance of official duties and responsibilities
HB 76: Require candidates for the county board of education to declare the political party with which they are affiliated upon petition of candidacy for such office
HB 209: The Mississippi Save Our Children Act to require failing school districts to implement certain programs in order to improve student performance
HB 224: To provide a penalty in the amount of $1,500 to be imposed upon schools for failure to recite the Pledge of Allegiance within the first hour of class on each school day
HB 939: To exempt children from vaccine requirements on religious or philosophical grounds
HB 1044: To authorize open enrollment in charter schools
HB 1396: To provide greater funding to districts that show the greatest levels of growth and efficiency
HB 2731: To provide for the appointment of all school superintendents
